(For Immediate Release – Port Moody, BC, October 31, 2024) – The Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC (CUFA BC) is pleased to announce a call for nominations to the 2025 Distinguished Academics Awards.
“Faculty engage in outstanding scholarship that contributes to new discoveries and creates new understandings of our experiences in the world,” says President Dr. Monica Prendergast. “The Distinguished Academics Awards give us the opportunity to recognize the valuable contributions of university research to our communities.”
The CUFA BC Distinguished Academics Awards series includes three awards, each recognizing the valuable contributions to scholarly research beyond the academy of faculty at research universities across the province. The CUFA BC Distinguished Academics Awards celebrate the ideas that contribute to our community and demonstrate the necessity and vitality of public university-based research and scholarly activity.
- Early in Career Award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by scholars at relatively early stages in their careers.
- Ehor Boyanowsky Academic of the Year Award recognizes specific and recent outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academic through research or other scholarly activity at any career stage.
- Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award recognizes sustained outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academy through research or other scholarly activities by an individual or group over the majority of an academic career.
The award winners will each receive a plaque and $2,000 cash award, and will celebrate with friends and colleagues at a gala reception. Nominations are open to members of the faculty associations at Royal Roads University, Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, and University of Victoria.
Nominations close January 31, 2025 with an awards ceremony to take place April 24 in Victoria, BC.
