In May 2016, the BC government passed a private-member's bill introduced by Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver entitled the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act. This legislation required all 25 public post-secondary institutions in BC to have a sexual violence and misconduct policy.

This briefing presents an overview of the sexual violence policies in effect at five research universities in BC:

  • University of British Columbia (UBC)
  • University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)
  • Simon Fraser University (SFU)
  • University of Victoria (UVic)
  • Royal Roads University (RRU)

It aims to identify similarities and differences between each of the policies, and to bring common themes to the attention of our member associations.

Please submit a request to us for a copy of the briefing.

“The institutions fleshed out the legislation to meet the needs of their own local culture where the Act was otherwise silent or insufficient.”
