Universities play a direct role in driving social change and economic innovation and developing skills to meet workforce demands. As the province undertakes a review of post-secondary funding, there’s an opportunity to build on the successful legacy of BC’s education sector and support its evolution to meet present-day challenges.
We’ve identified five core principles that we believe should take priority during the funding model review:
- Keep public education public
- Ensure equity of access
- Maintain a commitment to knowledge
- Create financial stability (reciprocal accountability)
- Protect institutional autonomy
Our brief series explores these core principles, along with relevant evidence and specific policy recommendations. It comprises six briefs:
“We approach this review from a perspective of potential. One in which we reflect on the values we hold for the future of post-secondary education in BC, while recognizing the incredible human infrastructure that supports the system.”
