Universities play a vital role in BC’s economic, social, and environmental well-being. As the province reviews its post-secondary funding model, universities welcome the opportunity to strengthen their contributions to a sustainable and inclusive future.
CUFA BC is the unifying voice of five faculty associations, representing more than 5,500 faculty members at research universities in BC. We have seized the opportunity to participate in the consultation process to review the funding model. Our submission recommends that the funding model is evolved using a values-based approach.
We’ve identified five core principles that we believe should take priority during the funding model review:
- Keep public education public
- Ensure equity of access
- Maintain a commitment to knowledge
- Create financial stability (reciprocal accountability)
- Protect institutional autonomy

“However the funding model evolves throughout this consultation process, we believe that a values-based approach to the funding model review will be the best way to establish a common foundation.”
