CUFA BC initially declined to recommend changes to the Labour Relations Code, as faculty associations at BC’s research universities were largely satisfied with it. However, in response to employer and non-unionized association submissions, we now offer our own recommendations.

We caution against major changes to the Code, prioritizing stability in our sector. The current framework fairly balances collective agreements and provides effective dispute resolution on BC’s campuses.

Read our submission to the Special Committee to Review the Labour Relations Code, which includes our responses to recommendations from employer groups like RUCBC and PSEA, and from non-unionized staff associations like APSA at SFU and AAPS at UBC.

“We strongly recommend against expanding essential services to include faculty…. [this] would categorically shift the balance of power in favour of employers while undermining workers’ rights to collectively bargain or withhold their labour.”
