Created 29 October 2024 14:10

(For Immediate Release – Port Moody, BC, October 29, 2024) – With the re-election of David Eby and the BC NDP, the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia (CUFA BC) looks forward to building on government’s momentum to drive meaningful improvements in BC’s public post-secondary education sector.

“Voters have mandated David Eby and the BC NDP to continue its investment in progressive change that safeguards the public sector, including public post-secondary education,” said President Monica Prendergast. “BC’s research universities play a crucial role in the social, intellectual, and economic innovation of the province. We will continue to press for bold reforms to make public post-secondary education a priority for this government.”

CUFA BC remains committed to working closely with government to advocate for the rights of faculty who deliver the academic missions of the university. We call on government to create financial stability in the sector and to commit to the knowledge economy and the fundamental importance of education in all disciplines and at all academic levels.

We congratulate the new and returning Members of the Legislative Assembly, and extend our deep gratitude to candidates from all political parties who ran in the 2024 BC election. You truly helped make a difference in this election. Thank you for your willingness to serve your communities and to represent the diversity and plurality of British Columbians.

We stand ready to collaborate with the new government to address the pressing issues that impact BC’s research universities across the province and in support of educated citizenry. Together, we can ensure that public post-secondary education remains a pillar of BC’s future.
