Provinces provide block operating grants to universities and those grants continue to comprise the largest single source of funding for BC’s research universities. However, the proportion of that grant has been declining as has the nominal and real dollar funding for universities. Universities are under increasing pressure to generate alternative sources of revenue and manage their academic priorities with fewer resources. The research compiled below tracks these funding declines as well as provides context for the funding pressures facing BC’s research universities.
